Prospect Hill Opening - Burlington Times 8_13_11A new community health center opened this week in Prospect Hill.

The 4,000-square-foot facility at 140 Main Street operated by Piedmont Health Services Inc. replaces an older office that has been there more than 40 years. The new center features a larger pharmacy, more spaces for workshops and group meetings, a better floor plan and a second floor to accommodate growth at the center.

Community health centers provide affordable care in communities where poverty levels and infant mortality are high, and where there are few practicing physicians. Community health centers provide treatment to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Fees are based on income level.

Politicians including Sen. Kay Hagan, Rep. Brad Miller and N.C. Sen. Rick Gunn attended Wednesday’s grand opening.

Other community health centers in the Burlington area operated by Piedmont Health Services include the Charles Drew Community Health Center, at 221 N. Graham Hopedale Road, and the Scott Community Health Center, at 5270 Union Ridge Road.

Earlier this week, Congressman Howard Coble was at the Scott Center to celebrate Community Health Center Week.
